For Families
While Tiny Escape Montinho is often enjoyed by couples seeking peace and quiet, families with children are equally welcome.
To make travelling with little ones easier, we provide a growing high chair, children's tableware and cutlery, toys, books, a baby bath, socket covers, child-friendly towels and washcloths, as well as a selection of other useful essentials. With 22 hectares of private land to explore, nature becomes the playground. Children can discover hidden paths, wildlife and the changing seasons all around them.
Please note that Montinho is a nature-based retreat and not a child-proof environment. The property includes uneven terrain, historic stone structures, natural slopes and open outdoor spaces without safetey railing. Children are very welcome, but parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring their safety and should supervise them according to their age and abilities.
Outdoor Spaces & Garden Life
Life at Montinho naturally unfolds outdoors. Spread throughout the surrounding garden areas, a series of spaces invite slower moments throughout the day — from long breakfasts in the morning sun to quiet evenings beneath the trees.
The edible garden is woven into everyday life here, with herbs, berries, flowers and seasonal produce growing throughout the land. Around it, shaded seating areas, terraces and quiet corners create space to rest, read, gather or simply spend time outside.
As the sun sets, the atmosphere slowly changes. Soft solar lights appear throughout the gardens, large string lights illuminate the yoga platform and an old cork oak tree glows gently from below. Beneath the dark skies of the surrounding landscape, the outdoor spaces become especially calm at night — with clear stars, warm light and the quiet sounds of nature all around.
22 Hectars to Explore
Beyond the immediate surroundings of the house, the land opens up into 22 hectares of nature to explore.
Walking through it, you’ll come across hidden paths, old terraces and traces of its past — along with two small rivers, natural water sources and a protected landscape shaped by time.
If you’re curious to discover more about the land, its history and the ongoing restoration, you can explore more below.
Beyond the Retreat
The Monchique mountains offer a quieter, greener side of the Algarve — shaped by forests, small villages and a slower rhythm of life.
From hiking and exploring nature to discovering local culture and food, the area unfolds gradually.
Within reach, both the wild west coast and the calmer southern coastline open up a completely different landscape.
